Beat Mixing Explained
Beat Mixing (or Beat Matching) is a technique used by many of the top professional Disc Jockeys. The goal of beat mixing is to keep the beat of the music continuous and flowing throughout the transition from one song to the next. The idea behind this is so that people don't stop dancing between songs. It requires skill and experience as well as specialized DJ CD players and mixers.
It involves calculating the number of Beats Per Minute (BPM) of the song thats playing, or the play-track, and the song that will play next, or the cue-track. Then, the DJ adjusts the tempo and key of the cue-track to match that of the play-track. Next, he synchronizes the beats of the two songs, and as the play-track nears its end, the cue-track is seamlessly faded in.
